Growth Isn't Always A Good Thing

Christa Richert / Stock Xchng
I work hard toward personal growth, toward evolving, toward learning and becoming. In my goal to grow and become more fully who I was meant to be, though, I must be careful that my growth is not predicated upon "I am not enough".

I am sure, especially as a single parent, you are constantly thinking about who you are and the kind of example you are setting for your children. Working toward growth and goals in life is usually a very positive thing; just pay close attention to why you seek growth. You can work toward growth AND still be enough exactly how you are. Seems paradoxical, but it isn't. Look at your child. Would you tell him or her that all of the things they are learning in life is because who they are now is simply "not enough"? Of course not.  Then, stop telling that to yourselves. Try this instead:

I am enough exactly as I am right now. All growth I attain merely adds to my current state of "enoughness".

Doesn't that feel so much better?  Yeah, it does to me, too!
