Moey's Music Party!

I had the good fortune of finding out about Moey's Music Party from my friend over at My Mom Shops.  As you know, I have decided to homeschool Theo over the next 2 years and I wanted to be sure I gave him lots of time to socialize with small children, so I took him on Wednesday to one of Moey's classes and he loved it!  I wasn't sure he'd like it because sometimes he's a bit reticent at first and it can take him a little while to warm up to new experiences, but he took to Moey and the class almost right away.  She is a great songwriter and incorporates letters, shapes and numbers in very danceable songs that encourage everyone to get up and boogie.  There's even a song, "Alphabet Soup", that teaches waiting one's turn as they each wait for their chance to stir the Alphabet Soup pot.  It was a great experience and I've since decided to make Moey's Music party a part of Theo's homeschooling experience.

If you are in Manhattan and are looking for a fun music class for your toddler or preschooler, you should definitely look into Moey's Music Class.  You can pay as you go or save money when you purchase a multi-class pack.  For those signing up immediately she has some discounts happening if you join with friends:

If you do decide to check out her classes, let me know; I would love to meet up with you there!

*While Theo was given a free class and I was offered a discount should I purchase a multi-class pack, the opinions expressed here are authentically my own and have not been influenced in any way.  Besides, Theo doesn't know the class was free, all he knows is that it was fun.

Catching Up . . .

I'm slowly coming back out of my shell.  My eye is better, finally.  I've been tending to a medical issue of Theo's but his doctor said just yesterday that he should be ok (there was a lump on his neck that turned out to be a minor glandular issue after all but gave us quite a scare nonetheless).  Now he has a little cough but I'm glad that he is sick with something as mundane as a cough.  Lumps in your kid's neck puts shit into perspective quick.

Other than that I am gearing up for my next major project: Homeschooling.  I've decided that since Theo's finest options for public education (either the one up the street from me which is a fabulous school that excels with both academics and the performing arts, or whether I have him tested for the NYC public gifted schools and he gets in), they don't start until Kindergarten.  Theo just turned 3.  That leaves me with two whole years to give him a homeschool foundation, one that I can augment with the ton of options there are for kids to be exposed to here in my city, my love.  Museums and play spaces, concert halls, jazz performances, Alvin Ailey and toddler music and art classes - this city has it all.  Me, my city, and my kid.  The next two years will be a truly wondrous journey of growth for the lot of us.

Sorry...

I know I've been M.I.A. but I've had severe issues with my left eye; I have a Hypoxic Corneal Infiltrate, or in mere mortal speak, a severe inflammation of the cornea due to my contact lenses.  I slept in them way too many nights in a row because I ended up passing out on the couch most nights, waking up at 2 in the morning and then just gettting up and falling straight into bed.  It is the most painful thing I have ever endured, including recovering from a C-section (which, by the way, is major abdominal surgery, thank you very much).  The swelling has gone down quite a bit though, yesterday it was way worse.  This is me today - and keep in mind, both eyes are open in this picture:

Yes, BOTH of my eyes are open in this picture; that's how swollen my left eye is.  And today the swelling has actually gone down from yesterday.  I'm actually typing this with my left eye closed and just my right eye looking at what I'm doing because opening my left eye is painful.  No small feat, I gotta tell ya.

I wish that when I say that there's never a dull minute in my life that I meant that in a good way.  Allow me to be a cautionary tale for contact lens wearers; take your lenses out at night!  Please, don't let me have suffered for naught.  Go ahead, make me your martyr.  ;-)
(That's not me winking, by the way.  That's me with my eye swollen shut.)
