I was a single mother for five and a half years. I remember the Mommy Paradox too. My parents would keep my son for a week at a time. And one summer they kept him free months because my job sent me out-of-state.
A Sobering Week brought tears to my eyes. My dad had a heart attack this week. He was in ICU for 13 days. It was particularly hard on my oldest son, who bonded with my dad those first 5 1/2 years.

How is your dad doing? He is truly a hero- and what a wonderful post you wrote about him.
My mom was a single parent until I was 10. We are still very close in a very unique way because of those early years.

I'm a New Yorker living in Los Angeles for 15 years now so good for you lady on being brave enough to put your story out there as a single mama. Congratulations on your SITS featured blogger day, good job!
I just read A Sobering Week. As a stroke survivor I completely understand many [not all] of the things your father has been through.
I don't have children but I do admire single mothers, I have several in my family and it's a tough gig, I know. So my hat goes off to you BIG TIME. Keep up the good work and your son is delicious.
